What you need to know about coronavirus and your Staysure travel insurance policy

With airports and airlines ready to reopen, holidays can soon return to cards for thousands of Britons.

But what are you eating with your Staysure policy? And what can we do to help you if you need to change your plans due to the corona virus?

Will I be covered with coronavirus if I buy my travel insurance now?

The only coverage that your new coronavirus COVID-19 policy will provide you is emergency medical expenses and repatriation if you become infected with the virus during your safe journey.

This means that if you developed COVID-19 while on vacation and need help, you will be covered as long as you have announced your pre-existing conditions.

For all other events that may be caused by the coronavirus, including cancellations, you will not be covered to file a claim, but we can help you change your plans.

I have an existing travel insurance policy. Am I covered for COVID-19?

All of our travel insurance documents cover urgent medical expenses and repatriation for coronavirus (COVID-19).

This means that if you become infected with the virus during your insured trip, you will be covered for medical treatment.

Where is it not safe to travel?

For the time being, the government has advised against traveling alone when necessary.

Before rushing on vacation, it is important to consult the instructions of the local authorities for the country you want to go to. It is your responsibility to verify that you can travel to the destination of your choice, to meet the entry requirements listed by the local government.

To verify that your destination is safe to travel, when restrictions begin to lift.

It is important to check with the Commonwealth and Foreign Affairs travel tips regularly before going on vacation as this may change.

Your policy will be invalidated if the State Department discourages all or all of your destination.

Can I travel if my area is closed?

If the area where you live is currently closed, you will not be able to travel.

If you choose to travel while your area is closed, you will be against government guidelines and doing so will invalidate your travel insurance policy.

Can I still purchase the optional disabled travel accessory?

Our underwriter, along with other travel insurance companies in the UK, has withdrawn our travel interruption extension coverage as of midnight March 13, 2020. We cannot sell any new documents with travel breakdown coverage until new notice.

If you already have a policy that includes a travel disorder supplement purchased before 11:59 p.m. Effective March 13, 2020, coverage will remain valid.

Cancellation of my flight or policy

When can I cancel my vacation?

Your travel insurance will only be covered to claim the cancellation of your vacation if:

The government, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the World Health Organization (WHO) or local authorities have not issued any advice before purchasing your policy using the optional travel interruption supplement.
AND

Since purchasing your insurance policy, the Commonwealth and Foreign Office has discouraged all or all travel except the essentials.
AND

When you purchased your policy through the optional disruption of the travel disorder accessory, there was no outbreak or quarantine known to the public at the resort you are traveling to.

Can I cancel my travel insurance policy if I cannot travel?

If you are unable to travel and wish to cancel your travel insurance policy, you may do so during the reflection period (14 days from the date of purchase of your insurance policy). We can offer you a full refund as a receipt for you to use at a later date or a refund less an administrative fee.

If you choose to cancel one-way travel insurance outside of the 14-day cooling period, you must do so before you originally had to travel. You can exchange the money you paid for your policy for a proportional receipt receipt.

This coupon is valid for 36 months, provided you have not traveled and do not intend to file a claim. The coupon can be used for full or partial payment to pay for future policies and medium-term adjustments.

My travel company canceled my flight due to coronavirus. That I have to do?

If your travel company cancels your trip due to coronavirus, it is often your responsibility to offer you an alternative vacation.

If you rebook a vacation, we can:

Change the start date of your individual travel policy as long as it is within 18 months after the purchase date of your policy, at no additional cost, provided there is no increase in the vacation period other than an additional day .
Change your vacation destination to any other safe country to travel, as long as there is no increase in cost. If there is an additional premium, you will have to pay the price difference to change your coverage.
If you need to make changes to your single trip travel insurance policy, please do so before you were originally due to travel.

My previously booked trips / tours were canceled due to COVID 19. Can I claim my travel insurance?

We understand that if a tour or flight is canceled this can be disappointing. Since the travel / flight provider made this decision, it is your responsibility to recover the money or provide compensation.

If you have paid for your trip or trip with a credit card and it costs more than £ 100, according to Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act of 1974, you are entitled to legal protection if the tour / tour provider refuses to reimburse you for the money or provide you with compensation. If this is the case, it is a good idea to contact your credit card company directly to file a claim.

How to protect my vacation if I already have a travel insurance policy

How will I know when traveling is safe again?

We don't know when it will be safe to travel again. If restrictions are lifted and you have not heard from your travel provider, it is important to check with the State Department before going.

If your destination is not safe, you will advise the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the World Health Organization not to travel to all or all of your destination, except the essentials. If the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the World Health Organization advises against traveling to your destination and continues your trip, your travel insurance policy will not be valid.

What will happen if I refuse to board my plane due to the coronavirus? Will my travel insurance cover me?

If your airline does not allow you to return home, you will need to contact the airline or tour operator to get your money back or to get an alternative flight.

My airline has canceled my flights. What I can do?

Whether you have booked your flights through a travel agent or tour operator, or independently, it is important to contact them first to find out if they can offer you a refund or make changes to your flight.

If you are offered an alternative flight, please contact us and we will update your policy with your new travel dates to suit your new vacation plans.
