How to Obtain a Life and Health Insurance License in Florida

How to Obtain a Life and Health Insurance License in Florida

There are three (3) types of Florida health and life insurance licenses:

  1. 2-15 Florida Life and Health Agent License (Including Pensions and Variable Contracts)
  2. 2-14 Florida Live Agent License (including variable annuities and contracts)
  3. 2-40 Florida Health Agent License

Applicants to obtain one of the licenses mentioned above must:

  • Live in Florida
  • Be at least 18 years of age and
  • You have a Social Security number (if you don't have one, click here and select "SSN" to find out how to apply for one)

Application approval generally takes 5-15 business days.

The steps below will show you how to get life insurance and a health insurance license in Florida.

Step 1. Complete the Pre-Licensing Course

60 Hours of Health and Life (including pensions and variable contracts) Pre-License Course for Agents. The online course has a tuition cost of $ 169 and includes a 4-month (120-day) enrollment period.

All applicants must complete the required education and pass the final exam at the end of the course with a score of 70% or better. The certificate of completion of the course is valid for four (4) years from the date of issue.

Through our partnership with Kaplan University, we offer the following insurance licensing courses in Florida:

  • 60-hour Florida Health & Life Agent Licensing Course (including variable annuities and contracts)
  • Florida 40 Hour Agent Licensing Course (Including Pensions and Variable Contracts)
  • Florida Agent Licensing Course 40 hours

Kaplan University must provide evidence of your course completion to the Department of Financial Services Licensing Office within 20 days of passing the course exam.

Step 2. pass the state licensing exam

You can schedule your Florida proof of insurance at any time. It is not necessary to complete a pre-licensing course to schedule the test. Our recommendation is to take a state exam 5-10 days after completing your course. Scheduling can be completed by calling 1-888-274-2020 or visiting PearsonVUE.com. The state exam fee is $ 44 per attempt.

Regardless of the exam you take, you must have a score of 70% to pass it. The passing score is valid for one (1) year from the date of approval. You will be asked to retake the test if you do not complete the licensing process within this time. You are restricted to five (5) exam attempts during a one (1) year period.

Each test contains 15 "pretest" questions that do not affect your final result. The "pre-test" questions are randomly distributed during the test. These questions are likely to look very different from the course materials and training questions that are covered in our class because we do not know the content of these "pretest" questions.

The cost of fingerprinting is $ 48.55. The results of your criminal background check will be sent electronically to the Florida Department of Financial Services.

Step 4. submit the request

The application cannot be submitted until the pre-licensing instruction in Step 1 has been completed.

Submit a license application to the Florida Department of Financial Services (DFS). In the app, it will share information about you and includes a $ 55 fee to be paid to DFS. Click the online request button to access the My Profile page managed by the DFS Licensing Office. Login to an existing account or click "Create Account".

When creating an account for the first time, you will choose "Individual" as the account type. The type of license is one of the following types:
